Sundays with the boy
The boy and I are settling into a routine on Sundays.
He spends the night with me on Saturday night. The first thing he likes to do is to head up to the laboratory – that’s what he calls his room. It used to be a spaceship, but now it’s a lab where we concoct various forms of goop. Goop that solidifies, goop that catches fire, goop that expands. Sometimes I ask him how it works, and he says something about molecules and atoms.
While we’re playing, I look at his mannerisms and listen to his expressions. I assume he gets some of them from TV, though he doesn’t watch that much, but the bulk must come from the kids he hangs out with in summer camp. He does a “smug stand” with his feet crossed and his arms crossed in front of him. Where did he get that from?
